LINUS IP, recognized for his musicality and sensitivity as a conductor and composer, is the Assistant conductor of Peabody Symphony Orchestra/ Peabody concert Orchestra/ Peabody Prep and is also currently the Associate Conductor & Associate Curator of NYsoundCircuit in New York. He was selected as one of the conducting fellows at the National Orchestral Institute in 2022. Most recent engagement including the conducting and assisting Marin Alsop and Washington Choral Art Society in the Kennedy Centre and appointed as Assistant conductor of Peabody Youth Orchestra at Peabody Prep.
Most recently, Ip is pursuing his Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at Peabody Institute of music in John Hopkins University where he studied under renowned conductor Marin Alsop and Joseph Young. He has received his Bachelor’s degree in Music at Mannes School of Music in New York City. His previous private conducting mentors include Henry Shek, Mark Shapiro and Michael Charry. He has participated in masterclasses worldwide with teachers such as Mei Ann Chen, Toby Purser, Martin Sieghart, and James Ross. Ip is dedicated in premiering new music and underrepresented music by living composers, women composers, Black composers, Asian composers and LGBTQI+ composers besides performing music from the classical canon.
Currently living in Baltimore and New York City, Ip originally came from Hong Kong. He encountered conducting in his youth orchestra at Munsang College in Hong Kong, where he received chances to assist the music director. Before studying conducting, Ip moved to New York City to study composition with Huang Ruo at Mannes School of Music. His previous composition mentors include Bright Sheng and Ilari Kaila at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology at the school of Humanities.
