The Eastern Music Festival (EMF) proudly announces Anushka Mundhra, an eighth grader at Brown Summit Middle School, as the winner of this year’s prestigious playbill art competition. Her captivating piece, entitled “Musical Joy,” stood out among the submissions, showcasing her exceptional talent and unique artistic vision.
Anushka Mundhra has been immersed in the world of art since her early years, cherishing every creative moment. Her journey has been fueled by unwavering support from her family and teachers. Embracing every artistic and academic opportunity that comes her way, Anushka has demonstrated her passion through various mediums, from crafting greeting cards for loved ones to participating in art contests since sixth grade.
The winning piece, “Musical Joy,” marked a departure for Anushka as she explored the digital realm, showcasing her versatility and willingness to experiment with different artistic mediums. Her dedication and talent caught the attention of the competition’s jurors, Edie Carpenter and Jocelyn Brown.
Edie Carpenter, serving as the Curator and Director of Curatorial & Artistic Programs at GreenHill since 2005, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the judging panel. Holding a BA in Art History from Barnard College, Columbia University, and a master’s degree in Art and New Media from Université Jean Moulin Lyon III in Lyon, France, Carpenter’s discerning eye has shaped over 60 exhibits at GreenHill.
Jocelyn Brown, Gallery Director at African American Atelier, Inc., also served on the judging panel. With a background in art curation and a passion for promoting diverse artistic voices, Brown brings a unique perspective to the competition.
Anushka Mundhra expresses her gratitude, stating, “I want to thank my art teacher, Mrs. Mor Fine, for letting students know about this great opportunity and giving me a chance to participate.” Anushka, who has had no formal art training outside of school and summer camps, exemplifies the power of nurturing environments that encourage artistic exploration.
EMF celebrates not only Anushka’s accomplishment but also her ability to convey what she envisioned a summer at festival feels like through her artistic lens. The competition this year served as a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent and passion for the arts while collaborating with the festival’s 63rd season musical theme, “Rhapsody”. EMF looks forward to showcasing Anushka’s work this season as promotions roll out in the Spring.
The 63rd season of Eastern Music Festival will take place June 22 – July 27, 2024. Stay tuned for announcements about the upcoming season!
