2010 Appeal
"They [EMF] are now bringing in performers of the highest caliber." – Larry Kirwan, Assistant Music Director, WCPE–The Classical Station, April 13, 2009

Eastern Music Festival is now planning its 2010 season! Music Director Gerard Schwarz will return to the podium and we have already confirmed violin superstars Gil Shaham and Tianwa Yang; the sensational pianists Barry Douglas and William Wolfram, and the always popular cellist Lynn Harrell. EMF continues to be the only Triad performing arts organization to boast two chamber series – the UNCG Chamber Series and the Carnegie Chamber Series. We are busily launching this season's application and audition process to continue to bring the best pre-professional students to our school and for our Young Artists Series. After a very successful series last year, the Friends & Great Performers, EMFfringe, and EMFjazz&blues series will return. And for the youngest generation of music lovers, EMFkids camps and concerts will also be available.

To maintain this caliber of artistic excellence, we rely on the generosity of donors and patrons alike.  Ticket sales, even for sold-out events like Yo-Yo Ma, do not cover the costs to bring these outstanding guest artists and talented students and faculty from around the world to Greensboro.  Music Students from across the globe compete for one of 200 spots each summer.  These students are gifted and committed to their instruments. Typically, more than 800 students apply for these seats – making the program highly competitive. This year, we are already eagerly anticipating the arrival of these talented young artists – ages 14-22 – on the Guilford College campus beginning June 26.  We anticipate that, as in years past, more than 90% of these students will be in need of full or partial scholarships. Donations to the EMF Scholarship Fund directly benefit these amazing young musicians.

Here is an opportunity for you to make a difference.  Please consider pledging OR donating a gift of ANY size to EMF.  You may donate an unrestricted gift or designate it to support the EMF Scholarship Fund.  If you have already contributed to EMF this year, we greatly appreciate it.  Perhaps you would be able to make an additional gift.  To make an online credit card payment, click on the link below.  Otherwise, mail a check or pledge to Eastern Music Festival, P.O. EMF relies on the support and generosity of our friends to continue providing the enriching experiences our students and audiences enjoy year after year.  Student tuition and ticket sales provide only a portion of what is needed to ensure EMF’s continued success.

Your investment in the Eastern Music Festival helps us attract the best and brightest faculty and young musicians to the School and invite Grammy Award-winning and critically acclaimed guest artists to perform at the Festival.

Your support is our foundation and we thank you for helping EMF realize its vision for an artistically significant, vibrant, innovative and financially robust organization.

Types of Gifts

Unrestricted gifts enable EMF to use your contribution in the manner that best serves its mission and programs.  Your unrestricted gift supports salaries for our teaching faculty, music purchases, guest artist fees, facility rental, and much more.

Or, you may choose to designate your gift to our Scholarship Fund.  Each year, EMF needs to raise $250,000 for scholarships to enable gifted students from across the country and world to attend our pre-professional training program, many of whom would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience EMF.
