FACULTY ORCHESTRA STRING SCHOLARS

Now entering its 49th year, the Eastern Music Festival & School is recognized internationally for its prodigious contributions to the field of classical music and its commitment to nurturing talented youth. The five-week Festival presents more than 100 public events (concerts, workshops, master classes, open rehearsals, lectures) each season, featuring world-class artists and students from its academy for pre-professional young musicians ages 14-22. During the 2010 season, EMF will engage orchestral apprentices to perform in the Eastern Music Festival Orchestra.

2010 FESTIVAL DATES

June 26 - July 31, 2010

DUTIES

  • Performing with the Eastern Festival Orchestra, a professional orchestra with world-renowned conductors Gerard Schwarz and Christopher Seaman, and celebrated guest artists Gil Shaham, Lynn Harrell, Barry Douglas, and William Wolfram.
  • 5 to 6 services per week – 3 rehearsals + 1 dress rehearsal and 1 or 2 performances
  • 1-2 potential chamber orchestra performances throughout the Festival; each includes 2 rehearsals + 1 dress rehearsal and 1 performance
  • A String Scholar chamber ensemble will be formed and coached by a select EMF faculty member for performance purposes
  • Opportunities for chamber music performances throughout the regional community

REQUIREMENTS

  • Age Minimum: 23 years
  • Undergraduate degree in Music Performance
  • Orchestral and chamber music experience
  • Classical performance aspirations

1.  Go to www.mediafire.com.
2.  Click on “Upload Files to MediaFire™.”
3.  Select an option from the menu:
        • Create an account
        • Upload without an account (you can use this service without creating an account)
        • Log in to your account
4.  Before you begin uploading your files, please see the Instructions For Labeling Your Audition Files below.
5.  Select the file on your computer that you want to upload and click the “Open” button.
6.  Click the “Start Upload” button.
7.  Choose the location where you would like to upload your audition files.  If you do not already have an
     account (or wish to upload the files without creating an account), upload them to “My Files” (main folder).
8.  Once the upload has been verified, click “View Uploaded Files.”
9.  Click the “Share” button to the right of your file and select “Share by Email.”
9.  Enter your email address (if not already listed), the email address for the EMF Education Office
     (nana@easternmusicfestival.org) and click “Send Link.”

INSTRUCTIONS FOR LABELING YOUR EMF AUDTIOIN RECORDING FILES

Please use the following format when naming your MP3 audition files.  Do not use spaces when naming your files; use underscores instead (“_”).

        lastname_firstname_instrument_composer_title_movement/excerpt.mp3

The following abbreviations should be used for your instrument:

        vn = violin                              va = viola                               vc = cello                               cb = bass

For example, if your name is Bob Smith, you play the cello, and you are uploading the Ravel exceprt, your file would be labeled as follows:
       
        smith_bob_vc_ravel_daphnisetchloe_excerpts.mp3

You may upload files up to 100MB in size.  Uploading larger files requires the purchase of a subscription. If you upload each piece/excerpt separately, you should not exceed the size limit.
